What is Direct Primary Care?

If you’re struggling with excess weight, you’re not alone. Over 40% of US adults are classified as medically obese, which can have significant health consequences. As an internist who is board certified in both obesity medicine and lifestyle medicine, Dr. Dawkins can provide the expert support you need you achieve sustainable weight loss goals.

We’re pleased to offer our 6 month program to the general community, and also offer a weight management + primary care membership for our patients!

  • Not exactly. While DPC may offer a similar level of personalized service, concierge practices typically bill
insurance and also charge a retainer fee.
  • In DPC, we never bill your insurance for our services.  ​
  • Primary care-related visits (including acute sick visits) are exclusively available only to our members.​
  • We do offer non-members consultations for weight loss and lifestyle medicine programs

Certainly not! If the membership isn’t working out, you can feel free to cancel at any time. ​Please note,
a re-enrollment fee will apply for former members wishing to rejoin the practice.

  • The monthly fee covers all our doctor services. Check out our full list of services for primary care and lifestyle
medicine that we offer our patients.
  • There are certain procedures where it is free, however patients are responsible for any off-site costs (example lab or pathology fees). Patients can choose to use their insurance, or pay the low cash fee negotiated by your doctor -which sometimes is cheaper than the cost with insurance!

The one time $150 registration fee covers the time it takes to prepare for your appointment by obtaining and reviewing your available old records, building your chart, and assessing your health.

No we do not bill insurance for our services, although many of our patients do have insurance they are welcome
to use for outside tests, specialist visits etc. We are unable to provide the highest quality service while operating
within the restrictive bureaucracy of the insurance system. You still need insurance for emergencies, specialists
and testing. Much of what we are able to offer for cash pricing ends up being cheaper than if you used insurance!

Yes! Patients may use HSA/ FSA funds to cover cost of their membership. Always consult with your individual
plan for details.

Your membership is activated at the time of enrollment; after this time you have full access to the doctor.


Monthly billing occurs on the 1st of the month, and billing is in arrears.
